We have a rich and inspiring programme of textiles and creativity this summer.
All based out of Farfield Mill, in the Yorkshire Dales.
showing off (our students)!
If you can’t make it to our exhibitions we can bring the inspiration to you! Or at least part of it!
This starts with our exclusive online screenings of Kate Horner touring the exhibitions, showcasing select pieces and going behind the scenes of their creation. After each is a lively Q&A discussion. This is always a popular event that we do. All you need to do is sign up and have your snack of choice handy!
Intertwined (Howgill Gallery)
This is the Graduation Show of the ArtyBird Carnforth Fellowship group who are ‘intertwined’ through strong, supportive bonds of friendship and shared creativity.
The exhibition reflects individuality within the cohesive group.
The group has chosen to ‘weave’ their work together in the way they are displayed using the space to mimic the same way the group came together and became inspired, ensuring the exhibition is greater than the sum of its parts.
Just like our Fellowship group.
One Thread
At this exhibition we’re encouraging you to get involved with a live art project!
We are inviting everyone visiting to choose one thread to make an individual textile mark on a large piece of fabric. Over time this will build to create a very unique piece that will bring together the individuality of our exhibition visitors in a work that shows the power of creativity to draw us together as a community.
Share the Thread!
You can get involved online by sharing the posts updating the progress of the thread. We want the message to go far and wide, inspiring others to come together in creativity! #ShareOneThread
One Shell (Dover Gallery)
A special shell used as an educational example by our very own Kate Horner soon became a star of a series of design courses, creating a seemingly endless flow of inspiring design work and incorporating friends, colleagues and students expanding these in their own fabric explorations.
The exhibition is a lively, rich display of ideas, some developed, but rarely resolved. They are techniques Kate uses to discover knowledge about the way she sees her shell – you are sure to be inspired and find techniques you would enjoy in developing your own work.
SnowBirds
That one shell keeps on creating! 2 years ago a group of 12 Canadian textile makers wanted to come together online as a group to work through our series of Design for Textile courses with each course focusing on one of the elements of design that impacts textile creativity.
The group decided to call themselves the SnowBirds, and with the support of monthly Zoom sessions with 2 Artybird tutors, they have together unlocked their individual creativity, discovered their own visual language and supported each other in the process!
Find Your Birds!
We would like to help you “Find Your Birds” with our Design Suite Plus and do exactly the same as the SnowBirds, where an existing or a new supportive textile group can come together to go on a creative journey that starts with exploring design techniques of colour from Foundation to Advanced Plus and be shown how these can apply to your own textile work.
If you are interested we are running some group chats where we can meet, answer your questions and help you “Find Your Birds”.
Or Spread Your Wings Yourself!
If you want to dive straight in to the Design Courses yourself you certainly can by heading to LearnWorlds and start your own journey!
We advise starting with Colour as each course builds on the activity of the one before.
