This is a non-exam course that is designed for students to build on their skills across a number of areas who wish to integrate them into their work. It is arranged over 1 weekend per term. Students will be expected to commit to the equivalent of 1 day per week of home study.
This year we are going to study the work of Turner.
Building on our studies of Ruskin, his use of watercolour and approach to looking, we are going to compare his work to that of Turner, particularly his private work, full of expression.
Before you come, produce a sketchbook recording your travels with notes. This could include sketches in pencil or paint and photographs.
Session 1 – Painting in Watercolour – large expressive paintings using colour to create atmosphere. We will move these into your craft area through a series of exercises.
Session 2 – Create a piece for our open exhibition in the summer called ArtyBird Squared.
Session 3 – The exhibition is open so we will explore Turner in oils. You will have a dabble – as requested.
There will be guided exercises as well as free work that will lead on to develop the complex mixed media pieces. This can be in paper and fabric media, combining knowledge gained over a variey of courses. Digital as well as analogue media will be explored.
