Needlefelt course. Festive theme 4 sessions, 1 day/month
Students need to bring:
Piece of foam about 20cm square
50gms of pure wool yarn in a colour(s) you like. Oddments are fine.
Crochet hook - size you like to use with the wool you have provided.
Pair of knitting needles - size you like to use with the wool you have provided.
Materials provided include in the cost:
Set of felting needles, wool for session 1
Coloured Paper
Wool for felted backgrounds (session 1 only)

Biscuit cutters
Wet felting equipment
Session 1
Introduction to flat needle felting.
Needles and equipment
Techniques using biscuit cutters, free forming flat shapes, leaving a textured or smooth finish
Wools - which to use when and where
Backgrounds - Choice of background
Prefelt - will shrink
Full felt
Knitted/crocheted wool
Practical
Make backgrounds half and full felt, Knit/crochet
Using a biscuit cutter felt a shape onto different backgrounds.
Create shapes freehand.
Session 2/3
Revise techniques learnt in Session 1.
Project
Develop a design for a table runner/table mats/coasters using biscuit cutter shapes and coloured paper.
Practical
Choose which shapes and colours to us, cut shapes in coloured paper
Choose a background, make a background if required
Put design together
Felt any freeform shapes needed etc for your picture.
Using your chosen background - create!
Session 4
Introduction to 3D needle felting
Felt throughout the object
Felting onto a frame/preformed shape
Add flat felts to 3D shapes. Observe the changes to the flat felts.
Practical
Needle felt some small balls
Felt onto polystyrene balls
Make flat felts to add to 3D shapes
This course is available from September 2011.
